Reedmarch
Past the West Road's fork the wood thins and the road runs out onto boards. Reedgate stands at the end of the Reed Road, and from there the boards go down through fog and reeds taller than you to the Stilts, a village on legs with one warm light in the grey.
The marsh breathes. A tide on the shared clock lifts and drops the water, so the place changes while you stand in it. South of the Stilts the Sunk Lane goes on through the thickest fog to the Drowned Toll and, at the river's mouth, Bell Pool.
At dusk a bell rings somewhere under the water. Everyone in the marsh hears it at the same moment.
The land is open to walk. Its people, creatures and stories are still on their way.
Hesper Lowe keeps the stall on the deck, Oss the healer works at his rack on the east side, and Brannoc Pole teaches the eighth and tenth ring lessons on the boards, rudely. The chest on the deck reaches your depot. Stand by the Low Fire once and you wake there.
