The Cold Mill

How it starts

Customer? We're shut. No, we're open. The fire's out, that's all. I grind by hand now. Builds the arms. I like it.
A letter from Iset? Don't hand it to me, I've flour to my elbows. Put it on the hearth, inside the door. It's not like it's going to light anything.

This quest is meant to surprise you. Go and find Hobb first.

What people tell you along the way

  1. Hobb: “Use Iset's warm letter at the mill's cold hearth, just inside the door.”
Hobb: “The hearth. Put the letter on it. Then we'll talk about work.”
Hobb: “Inside the door. Cold as a frog's... cold. Put the letter on it if you must.”
  2. Hobb: “Tell Hobb about the wet prints on the flour.”
  3. Hobb: “At night, stand by the yard lantern with no light, and watch the mill door. (By day, the yard keeps its own secrets: the water butt.)”
Hobb: “From the yard lantern. In the dark. You'll see whoever comes to my door. Not that anyone will.”
  4. Hobb: “Tell Hobb what you saw.”
  5. Hobb: “Work? I've a book that needs names. Ask me again, properly. Say hello.”
Hobb: “Lit. Smoking. You can see it from the West Road, they tell me. Let them look.”
Hobb: “Bread, torches, potions. Prices are fair. Fair for me.”
