The Sallow Sands
Past Harrowfield's last hedge the green stops. Ford Lane wades a dry ford and climbs onto pale sand, and far off one dark smudge of palms holds a thread of smoke: Lotus Oasis, the only water for days.
Bring level 12 or better. The sand is soft and slows you a little; roads and hard flats do not.
At dusk the dunes sing, a low hum out of the ground, and the camp stops to listen. For the hour after, the wind drops. That hour is the Sift, and the sand lies low enough to show what it buried.
